Oudh/Oud Hydrosol

Oud Hydrosol – also called Agarwood Hydrosol – is the fragrant water that condenses when agarwood, the resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree, is steam-distilled. It carries the character oud is loved for: deep, woody, resinous and slightly sweet. Being distilled from wood, it is a wood water, not a floral one, and far removed from a light flower or fruit hydrosol. One thing to be clear about: this is the hydrosol, the water that comes off the still – not the famous oud oil. It holds a soft, real trace of agarwood, without the intensity or the price of the oil.

That is the point of it: an affordable, water-light, alcohol-free way to bring genuine oud character into a formula, with oud oil on hand for when you want the deep, lasting note. Being water-based, it is kept stable with sodium benzoate at up to 1.5%, declared on the label. Agarwood comes from Aquilaria, a CITES-protected genus, so we are careful about sourcing: the material comes from cultivated, inoculated trees, and we can provide the CITES documentation export orders need. We sell it as exactly that, so no buyer pays oil money for a water, or expects the water to hit like the oil.

We name the preservative. Left unprotected, any water spoils — so this one carries sodium benzoate at up to 1.5%, declared openly on the label. That is information a formulator can actually work with, which a "preservative-free" claim on a water never is.
