Olive Pomace Oil

Olive pomace oil is a richer, more cushioning oil than the light seed oils, so it melts into the skin and leaves a soft, comfortable finish rather than a thin or greasy one. It takes the roughness off dry skin quickly, which is exactly what tight, dry skin wants in cold or hard weather.

Worked into the skin, olive pomace oil settles as a light layer that slows how fast moisture escapes, so skin that normally feels tight soon after washing stays soft and supple for much longer. That staying power is why it belongs in a rich winter cream, a body butter or a hand balm.

The hardened, flaky patches that build up on elbows, knees and heels soften noticeably under a rich oil like this one. Massaged in regularly, olive pomace oil smooths those rough areas until the skin feels even and comfortable again – a plain, dependable job it does well and at low cost.

Smoothed through the hair, olive pomace oil lies along each strand and flattens the roughness that turns into frizz and flyaways, leaving coarse or unruly hair calmer, softer and naturally glossy. A little on the ends before washing, or the barest touch on dry hair, is enough.

Olive pomace oil is one of the classic soap oils. It saponifies cleanly, gives a hard, long-lasting bar with a gentle, conditioning lather, and does it at a fraction of the cost of virgin olive oil, which is why it has been the backbone of olive-oil soaps for generations. It suits cold-process and melt-and-pour work and scales cleanly to large production runs.

In lotions, creams and body butters, olive pomace oil works as a rich, oleic base that carries slip and a cushioned skin-feel. It is stable, so it is slow to turn a formula rancid, and its mild, neutral smell leaves the fragrance you choose in charge. It suits products built for dry and mature skin.

Olive pomace oil goes into conditioners, masks and pre-wash treatments, where it smooths coarse or frizzy hair and lifts the shine. It is heavier than a light seed oil, so a little goes a long way, and it works best in rinse-off products or on the ends rather than as a leave-in on fine hair.

Handled as a refined, oleic-rich fixed oil, olive pomace oil joins the oil phase before emulsification and needs a proper emulsifier for anything water-based. Being high in mono-unsaturated fat, it is more stable than the seed oils, so it holds up well in storage and in a finished product. On a label, it reads as Olea Europaea Husk Oil.
