Myrrh Hydrosol

Myrrh Hydrosol

Myrrh Hydrosol is the aromatic water collected during the steam distillation of myrrh resin — the hardened sap tapped by hand from wild Commiphora myrrha trees. It is a genuinely uncommon material. Most hydrosol ranges stop at flowers and herbs, because resins are difficult to distil and yield little water, which is why myrrh hydrosol is rarely offered at all.

The result is unlike any floral water: warm, earthy and softly resinous, with none of the sweetness of a rose or lavender distillate. Because it is the water phase rather than the concentrated oil, it is mild enough to mist directly onto skin without dilution. We source our resin from Somalia and Ethiopia, where myrrh grows wild, and distil it here in India. Raasa Oils supplies it from 100 ml bottles to 10 kg bulk, with COA, MSDS and TDS on request — a distinctive base for skincare, ritual and grooming brands.

Myrrh Hydrosol Benefits

A Genuinely Rare

Resin hydrosols are rare. Distilling myrrh is slow, the water yield is low, and most suppliers never attempt it — which is why hydrosol ranges almost always stop at florals and herbs. Offering myrrh gives your range something buyers actively search for and struggle to find anywhere else, particularly from an Indian supplier.

Distinctive Scent

This smells nothing like a floral water. Myrrh Hydrosol is warm, earthy and softly resinous, closer to incense than to a garden — a grounded, faintly smoky character that sits far outside the sweet rose-and-lavender territory most aromatic waters occupy. It gives a product range an immediately distinctive scent signature that customers remember.

Gentle Enough

Unlike myrrh essential oil, this hydrosol needs no dilution at all. It is the water phase of distillation, carrying only a trace of the resin's aromatics, which makes it mild enough to spray straight onto clean skin. That makes it usable as a finished single-ingredient product rather than only as a formulation input.

Easy to Formulate With

Being water-based, this hydrosol drops straight into the aqueous phase of creams, lotions, serums, mists and aftershaves, replacing part or all of the distilled water while carrying its own resinous aroma. It is clear and stable in formulation, adding real botanical character to a base without colouring or destabilising it.

Facial Toners & Mists

Myrrh Hydrosol works as a ready-to-use facial toner or mist, needing no dilution or added ingredients. Its warm, earthy character suits brands whose customers find floral toners too sweet, and it fits naturally into ayurvedic, apothecary and unisex skincare positioning where a resinous scent reads as considered rather than perfumed.

Aromatherapy Products

This is myrrh's strongest market. Aura mists, meditation sprays, ritual blends and ceremonial products have used myrrh for millennia, and a hydrosol delivers that resinous character in a gentle, skin-safe, alcohol-free water. It blends particularly well with frankincense, sandalwood and rose hydrosols for layered ceremonial mists that feel genuinely authentic rather than merely scented.

Grooming Products

The resinous, faintly smoky profile suits men's grooming unusually well. Myrrh Hydrosol works as an alcohol-free aftershave splash or post-shave mist, and as the water phase in balms and beard products, giving a grounded, masculine scent signature without the sting of alcohol or the sweetness of a conventional floral water.

Cosmetic Products

In production, Myrrh Hydrosol replaces some or all of the distilled water in creams, serums, masks, balms and cleansers, contributing genuine botanical character to the finished formula. Supplied in 1 kg to 10 kg volumes with full documentation, it suits small-batch apothecary makers and larger cosmetic manufacturers alike, at almost any production scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Unlike an essential oil, a hydrosol needs no dilution — it is ready to use straight from the bottle as a facial mist, toner or body spray. Patch-test before first use, as with any new cosmetic product.

Myrrh Hydrosol is not intended for oral care use. It's best suited for external skincare applications.

The hydrosol is the water that separates from the oil during distillation. It carries only a trace of the resin's aromatics, so it is far gentler, water-soluble, and usable neat, while the essential oil is concentrated and must always be diluted.

Warm, earthy and softly resinous — closer to incense than to a floral water, with a faint smokiness. It is markedly drier and less sweet than rose, lavender or chamomile hydrosols.

The resin is sourced from Somalia and Ethiopia, where Commiphora myrrha grows wild and is hand-tapped from the trees. We distil it in India. Myrrh is not cultivated on farms anywhere in the world.

No — it is preservative-free, which is why it is perishable. Keep it cool, sealed, and out of sunlight, and refrigerate once opened. If you are formulating with it, add a preservative suited to your finished product.

Disclaimer

Myrrh Hydrosol is a ready-to-use aromatic water for external cosmetic use only — not for ingestion or oral care. No dilution is required. Information here is general and is not medical advice. Patch-test before first use, and refrigerate after opening to keep it fresh for as long as possible.
