Lotus Hydrosol

Lotus Hydrosol

Lotus Hydrosol – also called lotus floral water or sacred lotus water – is the aromatic water collected when the flowers of the lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) are steam-distilled. It is a hydrosol: mostly water, carrying the lotus's soft, light, sweet-floral scent and a gentle, fresh character. We supply it for external cosmetic use – as a facial mist and toner, in light formulations, and in aromatherapy.

Unlike an essential oil, a hydrosol is gentle and used as it is, not diluted – you mist it straight onto the skin. Because it is water-based, we preserve it with sodium benzoate (not more than 1.5%) so it holds its shelf life, and we state that openly rather than calling it preservative-free. We make it here in India, steam-distilling lotus flowers ourselves, and ship it in bulk with a certificate of analysis for every batch. The full INCI, the preservative and the pH are stated on the technical documents, so what goes on your label matches what is in the drum.

Lotus Hydrosol Benefits

Everyday Hydration

Lotus hydrosol makes a light, refreshing facial mist. Spritzed over the face, it settles as a fine, weightless spray that leaves skin feeling fresh, hydrated and comfortable, without any heaviness or stickiness. It is water-based and mild, so it is easy to reach for any time skin feels dry or tired – through the day, or after cleansing.

Gentle Toning Water

Lotus flower water is a recognised skin toner – that is its listed cosmetic role. Swept over the skin after cleansing, it removes the last traces of cleanser, leaves the skin feeling fresh and balanced, and readies it for a serum or moisturiser. Alcohol-free and gentle, it tones without any tight, stripped-out feeling, and its soft scent is a bonus.

Fresh, Clean Feel

A mist of lotus water leaves skin feeling fresh, soft and lightly hydrated rather than dry or tight. Its water-light texture sinks in at once, with no oily film, so it sits happily under serums, moisturisers or makeup. That clean, weightless finish is a large part of why floral waters have been a skincare staple for so long.

Delicate Lotus Scent

Lotus is prized for its scent – a soft, light, sweet-floral aroma with the serene, calming character the sacred lotus is known for. A spritz leaves both skin and air delicately scented, which is why lotus water is a favourite in face mists and aromatherapy sprays alike. It is a gentle, understated fragrance that is easy to build a range around.

Lotus Hydrosol Uses

Facial Toner

Lotus water is at its best as a facial mist or toner. Used on its own or as the water base of one, it brings light hydration, a fresh-toned feel and a soft floral scent, and because it is gentle, it goes on neat, straight from the bottle. It suits leave-on mists, setting sprays and gentle toners.

Skincare Products

In creams, gels, lotions and light moisturisers, lotus water goes into the water phase in place of some or all of the plain water, carrying its toning, hydrating character and a soft floral note into the formula. It is water-based and easy to work with; just account for its own preservative and pH, and keep your finished product properly preserved.

Aromatherapy

Lotus water's soft, calming floral scent makes it ideal for aromatherapy mists, body sprays and room or linen sprays. Alcohol-free and gentle, it leaves no stain or residue, and blended with rose, lavender or neroli hydrosols, it builds a delicate floral spray. It is a simple way to bring a soft, relaxing scent to a space.

Cosmetic Products

Handle lotus water as a water-phase ingredient. It can replace part or all of the water in a formula, bringing its scent, toning and fresh character; add it to the water phase and keep normal cool, hygienic handling. It is preserved with sodium benzoate, which works best in acidic formulas, so check your finished product's pH and preservation.
