Lime Hydrosol

Lime Hydrosol

Lime Hydrosol is the aromatic water that condenses alongside the essential oil when fresh lime peel is steam-distilled. It carries the crisp citrus character of the fruit at a strength gentle enough to spray straight onto skin, with no dilution and nothing to mix. It is not a floral water, whatever the category name suggests, because this comes from the peel rather than a flower.

And because the furocoumarins that make cold-pressed citrus phototoxic are not volatile, they do not carry into a distillate, so this raises none of the sun-sensitivity questions a citrus essential oil does. It is also the most affordable water we distil, which makes it a realistic replacement for the plain water in a formulation rather than a premium addition sitting on top of one. It is a cosmetic-grade material for external use only. Supplied from 150 ml through to 10 kg, with documentation on every batch.

Lime Hydrosol Benefits

Woman applying cream to her face against a plain background

Cools Skin

Sprayed neat over the face, neck or arms on a hot day, it lands genuinely cool and leaves skin feeling clean rather than sticky. The citrus note lifts within a minute and settles into a soft background, and because there is no alcohol in it at all, nothing stings or dries on the way.

Freshens Hair

Misted through hair and over the scalp, lime takes away the flat, shut-in smell that builds up in humid weather. It adds no weight and no oil, so fine hair stays light, and the scalp is left feeling clean and awake rather than coated in anything at all. No rinsing needed.

Crisp Citrus Scent

The aroma is sharp and green rather than sweet – recognisably lime, closer to the zest than to the juice. It is the cleanest-smelling water in our hydrosol range, and it reads as fresh instantly rather than building slowly the way a floral or a resin does. It never turns sweet.

Works Straight

No dilution, no solubiliser, no mixing at all. Decant it into a spray bottle and it is a finished product, which makes it the simplest thing in the lime range to actually use. Everything else we sell under that name has to be formulated into something else first. That is rare in this range.

Lime Hydrosol Uses

Skincare Products

Toners, facial sprays, sheet mask liquids and micellar bases all take lime hydrosol directly as the water phase, and it works neat as a finished mist with nothing added at all. The crisp citrus character suits a daytime or summer range far better than a heavy floral. Bottle it and sell it.

Hair Care Products

Shampoos, conditioners, scalp rinses and leave-in sprays all suit it well in the water phase. The clean citrus note carries through a rinse rather than disappearing, and it pairs naturally with rosemary and peppermint hydrosols in an everyday haircare range. Add it cold at the end of the batch so the scent survives.

Brown glass bottles and jars on a marble surface with a mirror and towels in the background.

Body Products

Body mists, after-sport sprays, cooling gels and bath products all use lime for a bracing citrus lift. It is particularly suited to a hot climate, where a cooling mist is a genuine product rather than a novelty, and it needs no emulsifier of any kind. Decant it and it is ready.

Household Products

Surface sprays, linen mists and natural cleaning products all use lime for a bright citrus scent that reads as clean. It disperses evenly in a water base without a solubiliser, and it carries no colour that could mark a worktop or a cloth. It is the citrus people already read as clean.
