Lavandin Essential Oil

Diffused or misted over cushions and curtains, lavandin leaves the clean lavender note most people actually recognise from laundry and cleaning products rather than from a garden. It is brighter and sharper than true lavender, and it cuts through stale air in a hallway or a bedroom instead of simply layering over it.

Diluted into a body oil, a balm or a soap, it leaves skin carrying a soft, clean floral scent long after washing. The camphor edge keeps it fresh rather than sweet or powdery, which is why it suits a daytime product far better than the heavier florals usually chosen for the job.

Added to a hair oil or a shampoo, lavandin leaves the scalp feeling clean and the hair lightly scented. The fresh, slightly sharp note lingers after rinsing without any of the sweetness most floral oils bring, and it works particularly well in products meant for everyday rather than occasional use.

Blended into a bath oil, a salt or a soak, lavandin fills the bathroom with a clean floral steam that lasts the length of the bath. It is the most recognisable evening scent there is, and a little goes a very long way, which is why it has been used this way for generations.

This is what lavandin is for. It survives saponification and the alkalinity of a cold-process bar where true lavender thins away to nothing, and it costs a fraction as much, so a lavender soap range becomes commercially viable at volume rather than only as a premium line. The maths simply works.

Fabric conditioners, laundry liquids, surface sprays, floor cleaners and air fresheners all use lavandin, and this is where the great majority of the world's crop actually goes every year. The camphor note reads as genuinely clean, which is exactly why the category settled on it decades ago. It is not a compromise choice.

Body oils, balms, lotions, bath oils and massage bases all take lavandin at standard cosmetic rates. It blends smoothly with almost anything, so it is an easy fragrance to build a range around, and it is considerably kinder to a margin than true lavender at the same inclusion. That difference compounds at scale.

Shampoos, conditioners, hair oils and scalp serums all suit lavandin well, where the fresh floral note reads as clean without ever turning sweet. It pairs naturally with rosemary and geranium, both of which sit comfortably alongside it in a haircare range aimed at everyday use. It suits both rinse-off and leave-in products.
