Guava Liquid Extract

The part of a botanical that most often irritates skin is its volatile aroma fraction, and extraction into a carrier leaves that behind. There are no fragrance allergens to declare here and no terpene limits to work around. It is a low-risk way to put a real fruit botanical into a face cream, a serum or a facial mist.

The oil-soluble version is carried in sesame seed oil, and that base is most of what goes into your formula. Sesame is a long-established emollient: it spreads easily, sinks in without leaving a heavy film, and leaves skin feeling smooth and cushioned. We say plainly that the softness comes from the sesame base, because that part is checkable.

In hair oils, pre-wash treatments and leave-in serums, the sesame base coats the strand and adds slip, so hair combs out more easily and looks less dry at the ends. Sesame is the classic Indian pre-wash oil, already familiar to your customers and to theirs — massage it in, leave it on for a while, wash it out.

The water-soluble version carries no oil at all, so toners, mists, gels, essences and shampoos stay light, absorb quickly and leave no film behind. There is nothing to weigh fine hair down and nothing to sit on skin that is already oily. This is the version to reach for when the product must feel like water rather than oil.

The water-soluble version is made for this. It disperses into toners, essences, facial mists, aloe and clear gels, water-based serums and sheet-mask essence without clouding them, because it is colourless and water-based itself. Add it to the water phase at your recommended percentage, and preserve the finished product properly, as you would any water-based cosmetic.

The oil-soluble version blends cleanly into face and body oils, cleansing oils, balms, salves, body butters, hair oils and anything else with no water in it. Because it is carried in sesame oil it stirs into other oils at room temperature and stays put. Expect it to add a little natural colour, and allow for that in pale products.

An emulsion has both phases, so either version works; you add it to the phase it belongs in. The water-soluble version goes into the water phase, the oil-soluble version into the oil phase or at cool-down. What does not work is putting the water-soluble version into a cream's oil phase, because it will not stay there.

For shampoos, conditioners, body washes, hand washes and face masks, use the water-soluble version, which disperses straight into water-based systems. For hair oils, pre-wash oil treatments and oil-based scrubs, use the oil-soluble version. In cold-process soap, add the oil-soluble version at trace, where it behaves like any other oil in your recipe.
