Fennel Liquid Extract

Fennel is one of the gentlest botanicals in common cosmetic use. It carries no sharpness, no heat and no strong colour, which means it can be included in formulations built for delicate or easily-upset skin without introducing the sting or tingle that mint, citrus and spice extracts often bring with them.

The extract carries fennel's characteristic sweet, softly herbaceous scent — instantly recognisable as saunf to anyone in India, and pleasant rather than medicinal to everyone else. In a formulation it supports a natural, botanical positioning and often reduces how much added fragrance a finished product needs in order to smell complete.

India is among the world's largest fennel producers, with Gujarat and Rajasthan supplying the bulk of it. This is home-grown seed processed locally rather than an imported material repackaged here, which means a short supply chain, dependable year-round availability and an origin you can state plainly to your own trade buyers.

Very few extract suppliers offer both solubilities. The water-soluble grade serves toners, mists, shampoos and gels; the oil-soluble grade serves facial oils, balms and anhydrous bases. One qualified supplier, one approval process and one set of documents can therefore cover an entire product range rather than only half of it.

Blend into creams, lotions, serums, toners and facial cleansers at one to ten per cent depending on format. The water-soluble grade incorporates cleanly into the aqueous phase without clouding or altering viscosity, while the oil-soluble grade suits facial oils, balms and the oil phase of emulsions where an anhydrous format is required.

In shampoos, conditioners, scalp serums and final hair rinses, the water-soluble grade blends readily into surfactant systems without affecting the foam, clarity or viscosity of the base. Its mild herbal sweetness suits everyday, family and gentle hair ranges, and it works equally well in rinse-off and leave-on formats right across a full regimen.

Soaps, body washes, bath soaks and cleansing bars take the extract easily, adding botanical content and a soft herbal note to rinse-off formats. Because it performs in both solid and liquid cleansing systems, a single approved ingredient can carry the same botanical story from a face wash through to a bath product.

In makeup removers, face mists, lip products and lightweight cosmetics, fennel extract adds a plant-derived ingredient without heavily modifying texture or finish. Its mildness and light body make it straightforward to include in formulations that have already been balanced, which matters a great deal in colour cosmetics where a small change ripples through everything.
