Cocoa Hydrosol is what a still draws from the beans and husk of Theobroma cacao, the cocoa tree. Flowers like jasmine or lily give a distiller almost nothing, but cocoa is different: run steam through the material and a clear, softly chocolatey water condenses out. Because it comes from the bean and the husk – not a blossom – it is a cocoa water, and calling it a "floral water" would be plain wrong. The draw here is the smell: a warm, cosy, faintly chocolatey note that stands apart in a market full of rose, lavender and citrus waters.

On skin it behaves as a light hydrating and toning water, easy in a pared-back routine. One catch comes with the territory – cocoa water turns quickly once it is left open, so ours is protected with sodium benzoate (up to 1.5%), and that is printed on the label, not buried.
